PHIL LEE

HELLO,
I’M PHIL.

I'm an experienced sound editor and designer with a distinction-grade MSc in Sound Design from Edinburgh University.

My feature-length and short film experience spans both the editorial and mixing worlds, but I predominately specialise in SFX editing and designing. I've been lucky enough to work alongside some of the top audio professionals in the uk within some of the best mixing theatres in the world. This has given me a solid understanding of film sound and its relationship with story and picture.

I can adapt to a wide range of budgets, from tiny independent films and promotional videos, up to large scale major productions. Always happy to discuss any budget at hand.

Dialogue/Voiceover Editing

Crystal clear dialogue with depth and consistency is vital to how professional your project will sound. I’ll bring out the best in your dialogue, giving it the correct presence to be heard clearly across the broad range of speaker systems and devices that your audience may use.

Sound Design and Sound FX

With a distinction-grade MSc in Sound Design from Edinburgh University, you can be assured of my skills and experience in sound design and effects. There may be a particular sound you've got in your head or have heard somewhere else that you'd like to use as inspiration towards the direction of the design process. Whatever it is, I have the ability to sonically weave it into reality and really take your project to another level.

Mixing and Mastering

Once all your audio is in place and the design process is at a point of completion the next step is to bring all those component parts together so they sound cohesive and unified. The mix brings in different creative techniques to combine your dialogue, sound FX’s and music into a coherent flowing soundtrack. Then we add the sugar and cherry with a mastering session which will really make your mix shine whilst keeping it all within any industry audio specifications you might need for say cinema, TV broadcast or web-based videos.

Location Recording

I am an experienced location recordist, with a full range of professional-grade microphones (Neumann, Rode, DPA) and top notch mixers and hard disk recorders (Sound Devices, Fostex, Zoom). Experience across many locations, film-sets and conferences always obtaining high-quality audio in the most challenging of conditions. When required for larger shoots and projects, I have links to many trusted industry professionals who are available to assist.

Music consultancy and sourcing

Should you require music for your project I’d be more than happy to assist. I have various sources of library stock music as well as trusted composers who I have worked with over the years if you require something a little more bespoke.
